What is your book about?

Drawing upon the ancient wisdom of the Tao Te Ching, The Tao of Inner Peace offers practical techniques for creating personal and planetary peace in today’s challenging world

What inspired you to write your book?

I lived in Southeast Asia as a child and was intrigued by Eastern art and culture. Later, I studied Eastern philosophy in college and began meditating, which led to my own search for inner peace while working for social justice.  All of this led me to write The Tao of Inner Peace.

If you have a business related to your book, tell us about it:

I am a positive psychology coach and senior research scholar with the Positive Psychology Guild in the UK. In both of these, I use many insights and practices from The Tao of Inner Peace.

What is a typical day like for you?

I begin each day with meditation, then writing in the morning. Later in the day I meet with clients, see friends, and work in the garden. Evenings are spent reading and meditating.

What do you most enjoy about what you do?

I love writing—an ongoing process of discovery.

What are some favorite books you’d recommend to our readers?

A book I’m reading now—Beth Kempton’s The Way of the Fearless Writer, a wonderful book about opening up to the flow of the writing process, inspired by Eastern philosophy.

What advice do you have to offer our readers?

To release impatience and control, to realize that writing is an ongoing process of discovery and to enjoy the process and where it leads.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

That my father was an Air Force pilot and we moved every year or two during my childhood. I was in 10 different schools before I graduated from high school.

What’s next for you?

I’m writing a new book, of course.
